After what had felt like months of chatter about the looming Mayan apocalypse which was to wreak havoc on our cozy planetary home, that ominous date has now passed without incident. But just in case some folks were still afraid to put down the canned ham and emerge from their bunkers, NASA has now released this stunning image of Earth taken the day after it was all supposedly going to end.
Isn’t this a great sight? Our lovely planet, completely intact, taken as a new day began: Dec. 22, 2012. Courtesy of NOAA’s GOES 15 satellite over the Pacific Ocean.
What a lovely planet indeed.
